A REASONABLE SERVICE
Whatever you do in word and deed, do for all in the name of the Lord, giving thanks through Him to God the Father" (Colossians 3:17)\
Her name is .....
Before i introduce her, let me tell you about her...
She had just finished her routine exercise early that morning when i saw her leave quietly and unnoticed in her usual manner. I forgot my locker keys in church the previous day and had to rush down the next morning to pick it. After i recovered my keys and thanked God silently in my heart that it had not got lost,i was astonished at what i saw, the chairs were looking sparkling white and clean! who could have to come to do this marvelous job at this early hour of the day, i wondered. Then i quickly remembered seeing that old woman leave with an old rag and a mop stick in her hand. That same old woman!!..So She is the secret behind those sparkling white chairs every Sunday morning. I couldn't believe it!! She sits quietly at the back row during the the service and remains there after everyone has left.
No one could have ever imagined her behind such a discreet but functional role in the church. What could be her inspiration? Could it be in obedience to a vow she made or what? even at that, most of us will still want to take some credit for the excellent job. We still want to be noticed as the figure behind that perfection.
So, every Sunday morning , this woman quietly breezed in to clean the chairs and leave unnoticed. And the beauty in all was that, she didn't want to be noticed!!She didn't want recognition,a a pat on the back or a even a thank you.Cleaning the chairs every Sunday morning was her own way of serving the lord.In doing so,she also served members of our congregation, week after week, she faithfully cleaned the chairs for the lord.
The beginning of this verse sounds really good until nobody notices
your word and deed. Serving without being recognized isn't easy. But
when we make choices to serve in secret, we find God gives us the
greatest fulfillment.
The woman who serves unnoticed and unthanked is a woman who loves God
more than she desires the praise of others. She is confident that all
her unnoticed deeds on earth are noticed in Heaven. She is satisfied
knowing she has pleased her Lord.
Does anyone see you fold the church bulletins? Does it seem your
laundry service goes unnoticed day after day? Is it overlooked each time
you replace the flowers in the church sanctuary or take out the trash
at work?
Oh dear one, don't grow weary in doing good! Whether it's cleaning chairs or acting as a church traffic warden who is never inside the church premises during services,
you can be confident that your Heavenly Father notices everything you do
for the glory of His name.
And lest i forget, her name is Mrs.Wellington Parker....(completely fictional).
