MY CHURCH AND I
What is your contribution to your local church? How indispensable are you when it comes to working in the house of the Lord? Are you among the spectators and benchwarmers who sit, mope and applaud every presentation during the worship service? Those who believe the church should enrich their pockets and make better in a way without any input into it. The church still recognizes its responsibility of forming lives and building better relationships with God at the expense of every other thing. Every pastor's priority should be the salvation of church members over their prosperity or numerical increase in attendance to programmes. The truth of God's word should be preached undiluted. More emphasis should be placed on helping the congregation discover and develop their talents which in turn will be used for the edification of the body of christ and society at large. Apostle paul explains that persons are gifts. Ephesians 4:11 says;
''and he gave some to be apostles, and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and teachers...''
There have been apostles who had distinctive positions,prophets with inspired utterances, evangelists with the ability to spread the good news and pastors and teachers to shepherd the flock under Christ. All these people are there to teach the believers the work of ministry. The greatest mistake people can make is to think of the church as a spectator sport. Apostle Paul also writes that gifts are given to all christians. Each one of us has a special gift. Ephesians.4:7 says;
''but unto each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ''.Sometimes spreading the good news seems a difficult and boring task. We lose our zeal and enthusiasm toward it. Other times it is reflected through us to our audience who as a result shoe their disapproval of the gospel truth. In the society today, the church which is supposed to be the light of the world has lowkeyed its activities for fear of rejection.We, who are expected to be pacesetters now tail behind in the trend of civilization. What should really be is that after the church has effectively helped us discover our various ares of ministry and callings, we should return it by making it useful for the body of christ and the society at large. This is where the faith becomes a force to reckon with by occupying its rightful position as the salt of the earth.
Each gift is different and there is a diversity as subtle and beautiful as the spots on a leopard, snowflakes on the grass, or grains of sand on the seashore. Each personality with its matching gift is unique, but like a note in the cord of music, or an instrument in an orchestra, it is intended to blend with others so that the message of salvation becomes the loveliest symphony of all.
If you have not heard the beautiful message of salvation, God desires to have a relationship with you.
